The Drill Leadership Academy structure will not be used for Summer 2017, However these courses have been incorporated into the Command and Ceremonial Support School.

The Drill Leadership Academy's focus is on Standard Drill (those drill movement found in Air Force Manual 36-2203 and the Manual of Arms from the AFCW Instruction 36-2203), Leadership Development and Drill Fitness.

While the Drill Leadership Academy (DLA) is designed to impart the foundational  skills and knowledge students need in order to be successful during Honor Guard Training, and graduation from any of the DLA courses may allow a student attend the Honor Guard Academy at a higher level, it is it’s own stand alone program and contains no Honor Guard specific drill instruction.

All 3 of the courses under the Drill Leadership Academy teach only those drill movement found in Air Force Manual 36-2203 and the Manual of Arms from the AFCW Instruction 36-2203.


All 3 of the courses contain the required curriculum to receive the Cadet Honor Academy credit.
Excellence Prep Course



This course consists of a curriculum focused on the health and physical fitness needs of cadets that are incapable of conducting training in another course. This course is suited for cadets that both need remedial drill fitness training and those cadets that would like to learn how to address the drill fitness needs in there home squadron and wing. Students may chose to enroll in this course or may be selected to drop their desired course of study, if they fail to meet the minimum physical capability standards set for each course. The desired outcome of this course is to teach the students how to safely achieve their desired physical fitness goals and motivate them to live a healthy active lifestyle and return to the Ceremonies School ready to succeed in the future.



We certainly can't do PT all week, so the students and staff of this course will also participate in the following:

 - NRA Marksmanship course

 - Obstacle Course

 - Laser Tag

 - Sports

 - Leadership Training



This course includes all of the curriculum requirements necessary to receive CHA Credit (Cadet Honor Academy). As such the Excellence Prep Course students will learn the standard Manual of Arms found in AFCW Instruction, 36-2203 Chapter 4.     • Complete a Basic Encampment

    • NA

  • Class Size Requirements

    • Minimum students 4 (i.e. 1 Colors Team)

    • Max Cadets 11 per driver (i.e. 2 drivers = 22 cadets (Students and C/Staff))




Drill Excellence Course


This course consists of a curriculum designed to perfect a cadets understanding of Drill and Ceremonies of the element, flight, and squadron, as found in AFMAN 36-2203 and to perfect their understanding and compliance with CAP’s dress and appearance regulations. (This course is an excellent prep school before staffing encampments). AFMAN 36-2203 is the primary text of study for mastery.


This course includes all of the curriculum requirements necessary to receive CHA Credit (Cadet Honor Academy). As such the Drill Excellence students will learn the standard Manual of Arms found in AFCW Instruction, 36-2203 Chapter 4. For more information about the Cadet Honor Academy program and curriculum (Click Here). Additionally, students will become generally knowledgeable about other relevant drill and ceremonies regulations


  • Prerequisites

    • Complete a Basic Encampment

  • Uniform Requirements

  • Minimum Physical Capability Standards

    • Pass the CPFT appropriate to their age and rank in accordance with CAPP 52-18

    • Ability to stand apparently motionless at Attention for 3 minutes

    • While standing at attention, be capable of steadily holding an almost 8.5lb drill rifle at Port arms, Present arms, and Left and Right Shoulder arms for 1 minute.

    • While standing at attention, be capable of holding a flag at Present Colors for 1 minute and return it to Carry Colors

  • Class Size Requirements

    • 11 students minimum

    • Max Cadets 11 per driver (i.e. 2 drivers = 22 cadets (Students and C/Staff))



    Color Guard Course


    This course consists of a curriculum designed to focus on the Color Guard aspect of Drill and Ceremonies with an emphasis on preparing the student to be fully knowledgeable to compete and score highly in the Cadet Color Guard Competition program as found in CAPP 52-4. CAPP 52-4 will be the primary text of study for mastery and lists several other texts that will be used including AFMAN 36-2203, CAPM 39-1, CAPP 52-18, and AFCWI 36-2203.


    This course includes all of the curriculum requirements necessary to receive CHA Credit (Cadet Honor Academy). As such the Color Guard students will learn the standard Manual of Arms found in AFCW Instruction, 36-2203 Chapter 4.
